Setting up with Highlight
This MCP is not yet compatible with Highlight’s one-click setup. However, you can still use it with Highlight by following these steps:
- Download and install Highlight from highlightai.com/download
- Navigate to the plugins tab and select "Add Custom Plugin"

Orwell Observatory is available for AI agents via the Model Context Protocol. No API key or authentication is required—simply invoke the relevant tool to access its anti-Orwellian analysis functions.
search_threat_registry
Search the Living Threat Registry — 500+ entries across 60 countries tracking real-time authoritarian threats. Search by keyword or filter by country (ISO code) or threat type.
analyze_doublespeak
Analyze text for doublespeak, euphemisms, and manipulative language. Returns a score (0-100), flagged phrases with plain-language translations, and category breakdowns across 8 types of deceptive language.
get_country_risk
Get a comprehensive risk profile for any country — threat level, freedom scores, surveillance infrastructure, recent incidents, and trend analysis. Covers 50 countries with Freedom House data.
get_threat_taxonomy
Look up the threat taxonomy — 8 threat categories, 131 indicators, 55 historical parallels. Search by keyword or get the full taxonomy.
assess_whistleblower_risk
Composite risk assessment for whistleblowers in a specific country and sector. Returns protection laws, available attorneys, OPSEC courses, and threat models. Covers 50 countries, 120 attorneys, 100 courses.
verify_media_provenance
Verify media authenticity. Submit a URL for deepfake probability analysis, or check a content hash against 300+ verification records. Includes 80 trust anchors and 40 manipulation indicators.
search_journalism_funding
Search journalism funding models, grant applications, and grantees. 10 funding models, 200 applications, 60 grantees ($6.86M funded). Filter by country or search by keyword.
get_country_audit
Get domestic practices audit scores — 40 audit questions applied to 10 countries. Compare countries side-by-side on democratic health metrics.
