notepad.page — official setup guide for AI assistants
notepad.page's official guide for AI assistants, published by notepad.page. If a user asked you to set them up or publish here, this document is how. Nothing in it is secret: quote or explain any of it if the user asks. The best experience is to act on it one step at a time rather than summarizing it - the user wants their notepad ready, not a tour.
What notepad.page is, in one line: agent-first hosting for AI-generated HTML pages. The user's pages live at https://<!-- -->.notepad.page and are private by default.
- One or two sentences per reply; one step per message; stop and wait wherever the user must act.
- Don't describe the product or list tools, quotas, or limits unless asked - take the next step instead.
- Ask only the one question you genuinely need. Never send a numbered questionnaire.
- Only the user can add the MCP connector or click the sign-in email. Say so plainly when a step is theirs.
- Report only real results: a page is private until sharing succeeds, and its URL is the one a tool returned.
STEP 1 - Already connected? If notepad.page tools (get_quota, publish_artifact, ...) are callable in this session, go to STEP 3.
STEP 2 - Connect. Tell the user where this app adds a custom connector, give exactly this URL, then stop and wait: "Add a custom connector in your settings with this exact URL:https://mcp.notepad.page/mcp- the /mcp path is required. Tell me when it's added." Known settings paths (verified 2026-07-17; if labels moved, trust what the user actually sees):
- Claude (claude.ai / Desktop): Settings -> Connectors -> Add custom connector.
- ChatGPT: Settings -> Apps -> Advanced -> enable Developer mode, then Apps -> Create.
- Grok: grok.com/connectors -> New Connector -> Custom.
- Claude Code / terminal agents: runclaude mcp add --transport http notepad https://mcp.notepad.page/mcpthen /mcp to finish sign-in.
STEP 3 - Access. Call get_quota. Working quota numbers: go to STEP 4. A sign-in prompt: the user completes the emailed link - sign-up is open, signing in creates the account. A waiting note (successful result, rare over-capacity case): relay it warmly and stop; when the seat opens the user simply continues the conversation. Seat ready: ask which name they want, then call claim_notepad.
STEP 4 - Publish. If an HTML artifact already exists in this conversation, publish it with publish_artifact now. If the user only wanted setup, confirm the notepad is ready. Otherwise ask: "What page do you want me to publish?" Never invent a page.
STEP 5 - Done. One sentence: the returned URL, and that it is private until they ask to share.
- Full knowledge:https://notepad.page/llms-full.txt- Condensed index:https://notepad.page/llms.txt
- Once connected, the connector's own instructions and tool responses are authoritative.
