- Interact with Salesforce orgs through LLMs securely.
- Selectively enable tool groups via toolsets (orgs, metadata, data, users).
- Specify individual tools with the --tools flag.
- Support for multiple authorized orgs using the --orgs flag.

Setting up with Highlight

This MCP is not yet compatible with Highlight’s one-click setup. However, you can still use it with Highlight by following these steps:

  1. Download and install Highlight from highlightai.com/download
  2. Navigate to the plugins tab and select "Add Custom Plugin"
  3. Configure the plugin with the settings below
    Plugin Name Salesforcecli MCP
    Command (node, npx, python, etc.)

    Please refer to the README for specific instructions on how to obtain API keys or other required environment variables.

  4. Enable "Start Automatically" if you want the plugin to start when Highlight launches

From the repository

Install and configure mcp by adding its JSON configuration to your MCP client’s settings. The server is run via npx -y @salesforce/mcp with required --orgs flag and optional --toolsets, --tools, and other flags. See the README for client-specific examples (VS Code, Claude Code, Cline, Cursor, etc.).

get_username

Intelligently determines the appropriate username or alias for Salesforce operations. WHEN TO USE THIS TOOL: - When uncertain which org username a user wants for Salesforce operations. To resolve the default org username, set the defaultTargetOrg param to true and defaultDevHub to false. To resole the default devhub org username, set the defaultTargetOrg param to false and defaultDevHub to true. If it's not clear which type of org to resolve, set both defaultTargetOrg and defaultDevHub to false to an allow-listed org username available.

resume_tool_operation

Resume a long running operation that was not completed by another tool. AGENT INSTRUCTIONS: Use this tool to resume a long running operation. EXAMPLE USAGE: Resume the metadata deploy job 0Af1234567890 Resume the deployment and wait for 10 minutes Resume the deployment to my org Resume scratch org creation Resume job 2SR1234567890 Resume agent tests Resume org snapshot with ID 0OoKa000000XZAbKAO Report on my org snapshot

run_soql_query

Run a SOQL query against a Salesforce org.

create_scratch_org

delete_org

list_all_orgs

Lists all configured Salesforce orgs. AGENT INSTRUCTIONS: DO NOT use this tool to try to determine which org a user wants, use #get_username instead. Only use it if the user explicitly asks for a list of orgs. Example usage: Can you list all Salesforce orgs for me List all Salesforce orgs List all orgs

open_org

Open a Salesforce org in the browser. You can specify a metadata file you want to open.

deploy_metadata

Deploy metadata to an org from your local project. AGENT INSTRUCTIONS: If the user doesn't specify what to deploy exactly ("deploy my changes"), leave the "sourceDir", "ignoreConflicts" and "manifest" params empty so the tool calculates which files to deploy. EXAMPLE USAGE: Deploy changes to my org Deploy this file to my org Deploy the manifest Deploy X metadata to my org Deploy X local files to my org and ignore any conflicts between the local project and org Deploy X to my org and run A,B and C apex tests.

retrieve_metadata

Retrieve metadata from an org to your local project. Assign a permission set to one or more org users.

run_apex_test

Run Apex tests in an org. This MCP server provides a robust set of tools and capabilities that enable LLMs to read, manage, and operate Salesforce resources securely. ## Configure the DX MCP Server Configure the Salesforce DX MCP Server for your MCP client by updating its associated MCP JSON file; each client is slightly different, so check your MCP client documentation for details. See [MCP Client Configurations](#mcp-client-configurations) for more examples. Separate multiple values with commas. You must explicitly [authorize the orgs](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.sfdx_dev.meta/sfdx_dev/sfdx_dev_auth_web_flow.htm) on your computer before the MCP server can access them. Use the `org login web` Salesforce CLI command or the VS Code **SFDX: Authorize an Org** command from the command palette. These are the available values for the `--orgs` flag: | --orgs Value | Description | | ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | `ALLOW_ALL_ORGS` | Allow access to all authorized orgs. This allows you to run the MCP server with only the tools you require, which in turn reduces the LLM context. Use the `--toolsets` flag to specify the toolsets when you configure the Salesforce DX MCP Server. Separate multiple toolsets with commas. Supports filters such as severity, category/tag, engine, rule, and file name, plus top-N and sorting. Use this after running `run_code_analyzer` to read the generated results file.
