Setting up with Highlight

This MCP is not yet compatible with Highlight’s one-click setup. However, you can still use it with Highlight by following these steps:

  1. Download and install Highlight from highlightai.com/download
  2. Navigate to the plugins tab and select "Add Custom Plugin"
  3. Configure the plugin with the settings below
    Plugin Name GraphQL
    Command (node, npx, python, etc.) npx
    Arguments
    • Argument 1 mcp-graphql
    • Argument 2 --endpoint
    • Argument 3 http://localhost:3000/graphql

    Please refer to the README for specific instructions on how to obtain API keys or other required environment variables.

  4. Enable "Start Automatically" if you want the plugin to start when Highlight launches

From the repository

npx mcp-graphql --endpoint http://localhost:3000/graphql

To install GraphQL MCP Server for Claude Desktop automatically via Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install mcp-graphql --client claude

It can be manually installed to Claude:

{
"mcpServers": {
"mcp-graphql": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["mcp-graphql", "--endpoint", "http://localhost:3000/graphql"]
}
}
}

introspect-schema

This tool retrieves the GraphQL schema. Use this first if you don't have access to the schema as a resource. It uses either the local schema file or an introspection query.

query-graphql

Execute GraphQL queries against the endpoint. By default, mutations are disabled unless 'enable-mutations' is specified.

The server provides two main tools:

1. introspect-schema: This tool retrieves the GraphQL schema. Use this first if you don't have access to the schema as a resource.
This uses either the local schema file or an introspection query.

2. query-graphql: Execute GraphQL queries against the endpoint. By default, mutations are disabled unless --enable-mutations is specified.
