Setting up with Highlight

This MCP is not yet compatible with Highlight’s one-click setup. However, you can still use it with Highlight by following these steps:

Download and install Highlight from highlightai.com/download
Navigate to the plugins tab and select "Add Custom Plugin"
Configure the plugin with the settings below

Plugin Name Canido

Command (node, npx, python, etc.)

Please refer to the README for specific instructions on how to obtain API keys or other required environment variables.
Enable "Start Automatically" if you want the plugin to start when Highlight launches

Install and run the server via npx: npx -y @canido/mcp-server. Set the CANIDO_API_KEY environment variable with your API key (free keys available at the CanIDo website, 10 queries/month). Any MCP-compatible client can then invoke the server’s tools: lookup_requirements, list_locations, and get_requirement_detail.

`lookup_requirements`

Look up what permits, licenses, and regulatory requirements are needed for a business activity in a specific location. Returns detailed requirements including fees, agencies, processing times, prerequisites, and common gotchas.

`list_locations`

List all locations (cities) currently supported by CanIDo for regulatory lookups.

`get_requirement_detail`

Get detailed information about a specific permit or requirement by its ID.
