Setting up with Highlight

This MCP is not yet compatible with Highlight’s one-click setup. However, you can still use it with Highlight by following these steps:

Download and install Highlight from highlightai.com/download
Navigate to the plugins tab and select "Add Custom Plugin"
Configure the plugin with the settings below
Plugin Name Home Assistant

Command (node, npx, python, etc.) uv
Arguments
- Argument 1 --directory
- Argument 2 /Users/allen/Development/mcp-server-home-assistant
- Argument 3 run
- Argument 4 mcp-server-home-assistant
- Argument 5 -v

1. Install the home-assistant-model-context-protocol custom component in your Home Assistant instance
1. Create a Long Lived Access Token
1. Clone this git repo to a path like /Users/allen/Development/mcp-server-home-assistant
1. Edit your claude_desktop_config.json with something like this and include your home assistant url and api token:
